1Feeling nervous, anxious or on edge

What is the anxiety test?

The GAD-7 (Generalised Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale) is a short, widely validated questionnaire used in clinics worldwide to screen for and gauge the severity of anxiety. It asks how often, over the past two weeks, you’ve been bothered by things like feeling nervous, not being able to stop worrying, or being easily irritated.

Each of the seven items scores 0–3, for a total of 0–21 that maps to minimal, mild, moderate or severe anxiety. It’s a screen, not a diagnosis — but it’s an honest, private snapshot, and a higher score is a useful nudge to get support. Scoring happens entirely on your device.

How to use it

  1. Think about the last two weeks, not just a bad day.
  2. For each item, choose how often it bothered you: not at all, several days, more than half the days, or nearly every day.
  3. Answer all seven questions for a valid score.
  4. Read your anxiety band and what it suggests.
  5. Try the recommended breathing technique to settle your body now.

Why people use it

  • Uses the same 7 questions clinicians use (GAD-7)
  • A clear severity band instead of guessing
  • Private — nothing is stored or sent anywhere
  • Pairs your result with a fast-acting calming breath

Frequently asked questions

What is the GAD-7 anxiety test?

The GAD-7 is a seven-item questionnaire that asks how often anxiety symptoms have bothered you over the last two weeks. It’s one of the most widely used tools for screening generalised anxiety and tracking it over time.

What do the GAD-7 scores mean?

On the 0–21 scale, 0–4 is minimal anxiety, 5–9 mild, 10–14 moderate, and 15–21 severe. A score of 10 or more is the usual point at which further assessment is recommended.

Can this test diagnose anxiety?

No. It’s a validated screening tool, not a diagnosis. Only a qualified professional can diagnose an anxiety disorder. If your score is moderate or high, or anxiety is affecting your life, please reach out to a doctor or therapist.

Does breathing actually help anxiety?

Yes — slow breathing with a long exhale, or the physiological sigh, can quickly lower the racing heart and tight chest of anxiety by calming the nervous system. It’s a powerful in-the-moment skill alongside professional support.

Is my result confidential?

Completely. The questionnaire is scored in your browser; nothing you select is uploaded or saved.
