What is the white noise?
White noise is a steady, even mix of all the frequencies your ear can hear — the soft “shhh” that masks sudden noises so your brain has less to react to. This machine also gives you pink noise (softer, balanced), brown noise (deeper, like a low rumble or distant surf), a fan, and six recorded nature soundscapes: rain, ocean waves, a crackling fireplace, forest birdsong, a thunderstorm and a babbling stream.
The noise colours are generated live with the Web Audio API, so they start instantly and loop forever with no seam or download. The nature sounds are seamless looping recordings. Either way there are no ads interrupting your sleep — just press play and pick what helps you switch off.
How to use it
- Press play and choose a sound — start with white or brown noise.
- Set the volume so the sound is just loud enough to blur background noise, not so loud it’s harsh.
- Optionally set a sleep timer so it fades out after you drift off.
- Keep the device a little away from your head, and let the steady sound do the masking.
- For sleep, pair it with a slow wind-down breath — inhale 4, exhale 6 — for the first few minutes.
Why people use it
- Masks traffic, snoring, neighbours and other sudden noises
- Helps many people fall asleep faster and stay asleep
- Creates a “focus bubble” for deep work or study
- Soothes babies and toddlers with a womb-like steady sound

What’s the difference between white, pink and brown noise?
White noise is an even mix of every frequency (a bright “shhh”). Pink noise puts more energy in the lower frequencies, so it sounds softer and fuller — like steady rain. Brown noise is deeper still, like a low rumble or distant surf, and many people find it the most relaxing for sleep.
Is it safe to sleep with white noise on all night?
For most adults, yes, at a moderate volume. Keep it around the level of a quiet shower rather than loud, and place the device a little away from your head. For babies, follow your paediatrician’s guidance on volume and distance.
Does this white noise machine work offline?
Yes. The sound is generated live in your browser instead of streaming a file, so once the page is loaded it keeps playing even without an internet connection — and there’s nothing to download.
Which noise colour is best for sleep?
Many people prefer brown or pink noise for sleep because the deeper, softer sound is less harsh than bright white noise. Try each for a minute and use whichever lets your shoulders drop.
Can white noise help with tinnitus or focus?
Steady sound can make ringing in the ears less noticeable and can mask office or home distractions while you work. It’s a comfort and masking tool, not a medical treatment — see a professional for persistent tinnitus.
